Hey ROVU Players! Playing in any MMO has it’s many upsides but the occasional downside, too. Today, I’m going to cover topics about keeping your account safe in cases of scamming and bad behavior. Sometimes players will scam others, but there are ways to avoid being a victim of this! Sometimes players will impersonate staff. We have special names in ROVU to let you know you are interacting with staff. A real GM or CM staff account will have an underscore. It will look like “GM_Sam” or CM_Lavender”. Note the “_” in the name. Normal players can’t add that, and it’s the part that designates a staff member from a normal player. Think posing as a staff member sounds like a good idea? Well, it’s earns you a permanent suspension. If you like playing ROVU, don’t do it! Staff will never ask you for your account password. If another player asks for it, for any reason, say NO! Your password is for you and only you to know. Only scammers will ask for your password. Staff doesn’t need it for any reason. Our GM team can look up your account with just your IGN. They don’t need passwords to help you EVER. I’m going to keep stressing this because a lot of new players fall for scams asking for passwords. We don’t want your account compromised. It’s a bad time for everyone because the support team often can’t do much if you willingly gave out your password to someone else. Please keep it a closely guarded secret! Sometimes websites pop up that impersonate our official page, trying to get your log in info. If a site asks for your Facebook login or your account name and password, navigate away and report the site to staff. It’s a phishing site and will compromise your account. If you mistakenly give a player or a site your password, please change your log in right away and notify customer support about what happened. Our only official site is warpportal.com. It’s unfortunate that not all players play fair. Sadly, some make a big effort to deceive other players into giving them items. If you see a player offering a service that requires you trade your valuable item to them, don’t fall for it! Scammers come in all shapes and sizes, including in ‘helpful’ disguises. Some will offer to do card removal services. Others will say they will upgrade your weapon for you. Whatever the ploy, don’t hand over your items to anyone in game unless you get something of equal value in return. Think of it like a real life trade. If a stranger offers to change the tires on your bike for free- all you have to do is let them take it away with them. Would you let them take off with your bike? Most likely not. They are a stranger. You don’t know where they are going or if you’ll ever see it again. You’d ask for something of equal value to hold on to until you get it back or say no. That’s how it needs to be with your in game items too. If you are tricked by a player who runs off with your cool gear, remember that risking your own account by harassing them is not worth it! Posting another players information or bullying them online or in the game is not allowed. Yes, maybe they are a horrible cheater, but you have to use proper channels to report the player. Posting personal information, photos, links to facebook profiles, calls to action against the player, or any other type of witch hunting or harassment isn’t allowed. For every player’s safety, including your own, report cheats to staff and protect yourself from future scams by being cautious. This is perhaps one of the biggest issues players in ROVU face daily. Real money trading, or RMT, is the practice of buying and selling in game items or currency for real money. This includes Zeny. Sure, you may want a ‘short cut’ to growing rich in game, but scammers know that. They are out on the prowl to steal your bank information, credit card numbers, and account log ins. It’s also just plain cheating to not earn it in game the normal way other players do. No buying or selling zeny in game is allowed. It’s a zero tolerance issue, so that means bans are permanent if you advertise the service. Some players will create secondary characters to break this rule, but be warned, your whole account is suspended for RMT posting. Yeah, you might think that it’s sneaky to create that other character ‘SELLDAZENY’, but your characters are all linked. Staff can see all your character accounts and staff regularly checks messages on the in game message board. Don’t risk it. ROVU is a great community with a lot of awesome players in it! We want everyone to have a good time and feel safe when playing with others they just met! Here’s a TL;DR: You can be part of the solution to scams and cheats by using caution when trading. Never give out your password to anyone. Make sure you know the difference between a staff member and a regular player by looking for the underscore in staff names. Don’t participate in activities that break the rules of the game, including RMT. Treat everyone with the same care and respect you give your friends. Remember that staff is there to help you resolve issues in a way that is safe for all players. Don’t hesitate to contact customer support if something goes wrong!
