Today is Thursday, our normal maintenance day.. but today promises to be anything but normal. We are performing a major update on our Flagship title Ragnarok, and we are launching a “Phase 1 test” for Dragon Saga which is our newest game we will be publishing.
Both of these updates have months of work put into them, and largely today is the “unveiling” of that work. And yeah fear of the unknown being what it is, we are understandably apprehensive about how well they launch.
Dragon Saga is entering its first open test phase, which means you can register an account for Dragon Saga on the WarpPortal, download the game through our Gateway program, then give it a play! But we will be wiping all those accounts before test phase 2, so it really is just a load test and a check that things are working as intended. Many may have heard or played a game named Dragonica in the past, so if you want to see what the next evolution of that game is give Dragon Saga a try!
Of course it would be difficult to be reading this blog without at least hearing about Ragnarok Online, and that is the update that has me personally fidgetting. Renewal is a big deal to a whole lot of players. Renewal expands the games horizons, but it also changes near everything about how skills and stats work, and change is scary. Today Ymir is getting Renewal, and Ymir is basically the distillation of our most veteran players and characters and now we are making a big change to how the world works! Of course no MMO is ever “done” and anything that is too wacky and not fun can get changed with some work and time to make it right. I’m most excited about the changes to the way leveling works, I love quests, and with the Eden Group new players can get some guidance, some gear, and levels; go go goal oriented gameplay!
But first we need to survive today, so step one: Caffeine, Check! Step 2 get maintenance completed, even though it is likely to go long due to the massive windows updates that were put in this week and all that game related stuff. Step 3 get gamers into their game with new clients that are necessary to play.
We’ll survive, we’ll thrive and so will our communities, and we will game on until we can’t no more.
For now it is back to the Forums and the coordinating stuff, make a comment and make our day a little brighter!
Can’t wait until RE hits Valkyrie. Considering playing, but not really looking forward to joining an already established community and having to play seven year catch-up.
Good job you guys. Keep up the good work.
is there any way i can be able to retreive my old account from dragonica(THQ?…maybe after the first test run?
Ey Jason,
I hope everything goes well today. It looks like it’s a big step onto, maybe not a new road, but at least on a new pavement, from my opinion.
With Dragon Saga Gravity launches a new and hopefully great game (I’ve yet to experience it…as I’m currently busy with stuff and planning on checking out iRO Renewal after that).
Also it looks like this is a deciding step for Ragnarok Online. Ragnarok Online is almost ancient in the world of MMORPG’s. It’s been an example for many other MMORPG’s and especially fantasy MMORPG’s. But as time got by many people got bored after playing the same game, sometimes daily, for several years. Renewal can be a deciding factor for keeping currently playing people, for attracting new players to Rune-Midgard, and especially to get old and former RO players back into the game. It is also a step into a world most other RO localizations aren’t making, for example with the closure of the german euRO and the pirates copying RO to private servers deciding not to perform Renewal changes. If it goes well, Ragnarok will see a whole new future in which a great community can be kept strong for several more years.
During the video session at the release of the WarpPortal system, you anserred on the question “why is ragnarok so awesome” about iRO is the active community of players, or to quote: “because all of you guys”. But I think a fair thing to say is, it wouldn’t have ever been possible without the hard work of all of you guys at Gravity. Renewal will mean a lot of the Ragnarok community will overtrow you guys with all sorts of questions and complains regarding so much things I can’t even think of all of them. All I want to say is, good luck and I hope both Gravity, myself and all other players can look at this change in a few weeks to be a hell(sorry Helium, I know jesus doesn’t like hell) of an awesome thing. Good Luck and may the force be with you.
