A word from our IT department

Here we are at 3am and still doing maintenance to switch up or “experienced” servers with some more virile young servers. A small little blurb from our IT department while waiting for data migration to get where it is going so we can open up the servers!

Waiting… Waiting… Waiting…

The more I sit here staring at the progress bar of our problematic Billing DB server, the more I realize why tonight’s AM maintenance is necessary. It takes so long just to move a file from one drive to another so that I can get it onto a faster system proves that this has been a contributing issue to many of the account/login problems. Aside from the time to make a minor error correction, it took over an hour just to get everyone’s account data out of that DB. *kick* *kick*

The moment it finally got off the old DB, the copy to the new DB was relatively fast. A grand total of a 1.5 hour simple “file copy” operation took practically 10 minutes. It makes me want to throw that deadbeat server out our second story IDC office window. (Except the windows don’t open) Which brings me to a point that Heimdallr and I have been discussing about…

We have decommissioned many of our old (ancient) Ragnarok servers (remember these?)

Perhaps if we were to “auction” them off, is anyone interested in buying cheap old Chaos Zone 4? Or maybe Iris Zone 3? Or Pegasus Login DB? Or perhaps someone is interested in purchasing the old Loki network switches? Maybe if the GM and/or the Network Team autographs the case of the servers? I wouldn’t mind if you went Office Space on them for your troubles at WoE. (Of course, all of it is without the data on the HDs, and some without any HDs at all.) But do keep in mind, not all of them work, and some of them do not or are on their “last legs”.

There will be many more improvements coming soon to your gaming experience, we definitely appreciate everyone’s patience while we take these steps to improve upon our systems and networks one step at a time.

Kamuro, it’s those windows that instead of handle, there’s a hole? If is that, then the people working there have the handle somewhere, and probably they’re glad to open the window to throw that server.

Sell them, just PLEASE don’t sell them with any HD no matter how well you think it’s been wiped.

Physically destroy the HDs.

Wow, server *stuff* sucks. We had NIC problems for months. I swear, it was AT&T to blame but honestly it just got to the point to where I’d point the finger at the NIC every time. Thank the almighty hardware gods for refurbs Hey now, that Login DB rack model, I use for a dashboard for our virtual server lol be kind please hahahaha
