The 23rd Anniversary Art Challenge kind of felt like opening a big surprise present over and over again!

Every time we looked at submissions there was another drawing another craft another song another video and it was like okay wow you really love RO and you are not shy about showing it.

There were cozy party scenes turned into full illustrations and little porings and props that looked like they were ready to jump straight into a photo shoot.
There were music covers that made familiar tracks feel brand new and story driven videos that followed adventurers through Midgard like tiny movies.

It almost felt like everybody decided together that this anniversary needed extra decorations and the decorations would be your art.
Everywhere we looked there were new colors new ideas and new ways of saying this world still feels special.

So we really want to say thank you for taking the time to make something just for this celebration!
Big projects tiny sketches first time entries long time artists it all adds up to one huge message that RO still matters to you and that means a lot to the whole team at Gravity Interactive.

We hope the Winners Announcement video helps you see just how many beautiful pieces came in and maybe even lets you spot your own masterpiece on screen. And even if your work is not shown or only appears for a moment you are still a huge part of why this anniversary feels warm cozy and a little bit magical and we are very grateful you chose to share it with us.

Thanks again!
See you next time!!

Ragnarok Online is celebrating its 23rd anniversary and we asked our team about some of their favorite features in the series.

Let’s check in with the team…

What I like most about Ragnarok Online is how strongly it triggers nostalgia, and I believe that is the strongest point of all RO IPs. The classic JRPG-style sprites, the colorful fantasy world, the feeling of exploring together with other players, and the storytelling all remind me of the games, anime, and comics I grew up with in the late 90s and early 2000s. For gamers from that generation, RO is not just another MMORPG IP. It carries a familiar mood and charm that makes people feel connected to their past, while still giving them a world they want to return to.

— Justin J, Asst. Project Manager

One of my favorite features in Ragnarok Online is War of Emperium (WOE). As a longtime PvP enthusiast, I love the thrill of large-scale guild warfare as alliances clash to conquer and control castles. It’s essentially a massive, player-driven raid — but instead of fighting NPCs, you’re battling real opponents in intense, coordinated fights.
What makes WOE stand out is the incredibly high level of strategy and teamwork involved. Success depends on perfect timing, smart class compositions, role coordination, and quick adaptation under pressure. Every battle feels like a high-stakes chess match with hundreds of pieces on the board.
Once a guild secures or successfully defends a castle, the real payoff begins. Guild members gain exclusive access to unique dungeons, valuable treasure boxes, and other rewarding benefits that make the hard-fought victory feel incredibly satisfying.
If you enjoy competitive PvP at its peak, I highly recommend jumping into the next WOE. The adrenaline, camaraderie, and sense of achievement are unmatched.

— Kevin D, Client Success

One feature from Ragnarok games that I think is genuinely kind of brilliant is the card system. You add a card to a piece of gear and it changes your build. Simple enough. But the more you look at it, the more absurdly good the design is. Cards turn grinding into this weird multi-purpose loop where you get stronger, make zeny, and actually have reasons to talk to other players. Some guilds team up to help key roles get the cards they need, and it almost feels like running a dungeon, except instead of solving mechanics or fighting some big dramatic boss, you’re just out there farming mobs together and hoping the blue rectangle finally shows up.

And that’s the thing. Cards become part of your story. The grind is real. The reward is real. The feeling of finally being done is very real. Maybe it’s a card that finishes your build. Maybe it’s a weird choice that somehow works. Maybe it’s something your guild helps you get because everyone knows it matters. It isn’t fair, and it isn’t trying to be. That’s why it sticks. Cards create memories, inside jokes, personal milestones, and all the little spreadsheet-brained nonsense that makes classic MMOs feel alive.

Greetings Midgardians!

Recently we have been reading and having players write in about rumors and their worry over the future or iRO, and I just want to offer assurance that iRO’s future in good hands. As summertime arrives we will soon be officially celebrating our 23rd anniversary and updating “Episode 20 : The Undying” as well. Rest assured that the culmination of 20+ years of iRO player adventures will continue to grow on our Chaos server. During our anniversary celebration we will share a sneak peek of our future game updates into 2027 and beyond.

The rumors that we have heard of involve the Latam and bRO servers down in South America, and we do not want to stay silent and keep player’s worrying about iRO’s future.

For context, last year GVI opened a Latam region service for Ragnarok Online, opening that Latam service was to give players from that region a chance to join a more updated server so they could play Ragnarok as players around the world have, and get updates regularly. Recently the announcement of bRO’s upcoming closure has given some players some worry. The bRO’s service was unique, but that uniqueness made it an impossible endeavor to update the game further and the character data could not be migrated as we normally prefer to do, due to the extreme service differences. We know that preserving your game progress is about the most important thing to MMORPG players, iRO does not have such extreme game differences that would make continued servicing a problem even if migration was to occur, so please don’t worry about that.

We may open more servers and services in the future; to offer different playstyles or new beginnings. One of our most important long-term missions is preserving the history of iRO and always offer a place for adventurers to return home and pick up where they left off. Personally, my characters are here as well, and go back to beta, being a good steward for iRO also has personal meaning to us here.

Thank you for caring so much about Ragnarok Online.
Heimdallr

This week we’re celebrating some fun holidays!

Mar 12: Plant a Flower Day!
Mar 13: World Sleep Day!
Mar 14: Pi Day!

The Rise of AFK Games

World Sleep Day is a good reminder that rest matters even for gamers. While traditional games often demand long sessions and constant attention, AFK (Away From Keyboard) games have created a different kind of experience. These games continue progressing even when the player isn’t actively playing, allowing characters to farm resources, gain experience, or complete tasks while the player sleeps or goes about their day.

In a way, AFK games fit perfectly into modern lifestyles: you can still enjoy the feeling of progress and growth in a game without sacrificing your sleep schedule. Sometimes the best strategy isn’t grinding all night it’s simply letting the game play along while you rest.

— Justin J., Asst Project Manager

Sweet Numbers
In celebrating Pi Day, a fun day that brings together everyone’s love of pies and everyone’s favorite subject, math. Sadly, some people did not get that memo, and they dread it. As a kid, I was like that too, but I remember playing a bunch of web-based math games and slowly starting to enjoy them and appreciate the subject more. As I got older and even had the chance to teach kids, I found myself using the same tactic. One of those games is Papa’s Bakeria, where players make pies while managing orders in a timely manner, or else the customers get mad and sometimes confrontational, just like in real life. It may feel like running a chaotic little pie shop, but along the way, kids who once hated math and want nothing to do with it start practicing counting, timing, and other math skills without even realizing it. I think that is the beauty of video games. They can take a subject someone dislikes and somehow make it fun, letting them see it in a whole new light. Or maybe I am overthinking it, and making pies is just as wonderful as eating them.

— Andrew S., Asst Producer

Planting Good Vibes
This week, I find myself thinking back on childhood days in the garden. Being outside with a small shovel, cracking through that top layer of dirt while the sun sat warm on my back. The soil had a smell I couldn’t really explain back then. Still can’t, honestly. But something about knowing a tiny seed could eventually change the whole look of a yard made it feel worth doing. That feeling stuck. It probably shapes why a day like this still lands for me the way it does, as a quiet reminder that adding something small and beautiful to a shared space is rarely a wasted effort, even if it’s just one flower in a pot sitting next to your monitor.

For a lot of long-time RO players, Midgard seems to scratch that same itch in its own way. The soft town colors, the flower gear, the way a crowded Prontera can somehow feel more like a garden than a lobby. RO has always been a little unusual in how it holds two things at once: the min-maxing, the build theory, the damage math on one side, and on the other, genuinely tender little moments. Meeting someone in a pretty map. Lining up a screenshot under the cherry trees. Sending a blossom emote because words felt like too much.
Plant a Flower Day doesn’t need to carry more weight than it actually has. It can just be a nudge. Log off for a bit, find some real dirt, plant something that’ll keep growing after today’s dailies reset.

— Mace T., Project Manager

That’s all for now. Thanks for stopping by.
Have a great week and see you next time!
